Inspired By: You’ve Got Mail [Albuquerque Senior Photographer]

Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I will admit that I like chick flicks.

Strike that.   I ADORE chick flicks.

They’re light, fluffy, and predictable and I love them.

One of my absolute favorites is You’ve Got Mail directed and written by Nora Ephron (whose work I also adore).

Plus, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan together?  Yes, please!! Anytime!

It is a must see for all chick-flick lovers out there!  I have seen it many, many times and I love it more each time.

This is Caitlin, a beautiful, fun, spunky senior who agreed to let me play my idea out on a session with her.

Mail 02
And thus was born my You’ve Got Mail inspired session.

I think it would be best to explain the following photos with some of my favorite movie quotes.

So follow along with me:

Mail 08
Shopgirl: Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one! It got on at 42nd and off at 59th, where, I assume, it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake, as almost all hats are.

NY152: Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.

Note: You’ve Got Mail was based on another fabulous movie, “Shop Around the Corner” with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, which took place in Budapest, Hungary.  So, although you can’t see it here, those little envelopes are made out to addresses in Budapest.  My little homage to the original movie. :)

Mail 03
Joe Fox: The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee… So people who don’t know what the hell they’re doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino.

Mail 04
Joe Fox: Because we’re going to sell them cheap books and legal addictive stimulants.

‘Nuff said.

Mail 06
Kevin: You know what? She looks… I mean, she almost has the same coloring as…  that Kathleen Kelly Person.
Joe Fox: Kathleen Kelly with the little bookstore?
Kevin: Well, why not? You said you thought she was attractive.
Joe Fox: Absolutely, yes, why not. Who cares about Kathleen Kelly?
Kevin: Well… if you don’t like Kathleen Kelly, I can tell you right now… you ain’t gonna like this girl.
Joe Fox: Why not?
Kevin: Because it *is* Kathleen Kelly.

Mail 07
Kathleen Kelly: When you read a book as a child, it becomes a part of your identity in a way that no other reading in your whole life does.

Joe Fox: The Godfather is the I-ching.

Mail 09
Kathleen Kelly: I love daisies.
Joe Fox: You told me.
Kathleen Kelly: They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?

Mail 10
Caitlin, you are amazing and stunning.  Thanks for letting me have my fun!

Mail 11
And do not fear, dear friends, there is more fun with this adorable girl coming at a later time.
